Finding the right religious order to join takes time. Just as finding the right husband takes time – you have to go out and spend time with them. The list below is a listing of those that I have visited, or spent time with.
Sisters of Charity – These are the Sisters that I grew up with and around. My favorite Sister, Sister Irene is from here.
Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist – These were the first Sisters I visited. I actually visited them twice.
Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia – I spent a weekend with these Sisters as part of a retreat.
Next on the list to visit:
Salesians of St. Don Bosco – I have a blog reader, Ash, who is a Postulant there!
Lovely way to spread the word! Thank you for these links. Maybe you might add The Visitation Sisters of Minneapolis to your list? They are a contemplative Order in an urban setting. I know they would welcome you to come and learn more about them! I spent a summer considering vowed life with these women. I am happy to be a lay member, or “Visitation Companion” to their order, and celebrate the way co-founders, St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal inspired their charism. I am also fortunate to count inspiring friends among the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Paul, MN, and the Assisi Heights Franciscans in Rochester, MN.
One more note: For you, or any friends wading boldy, cautiously, into these contemplative discernment waters, the Visitation Sisters of Minneapolis have also started an Internship Program for one year, that allows young woman and men to discern such Christian, Communal living in an urban setting; a precursor, if you will to possible religious life?
I look forward to whatever thoughts or comments you might have in response!
Thank you!
Good luck with your discernment! I’m also discerning and wanted to share this piece of advice that I heard from a priest (and several sisters recently… sometimes God has to hit me over the head with a 2X4):
“Don’t make your vocation discernment.”
I pray that you will find the right place for you! Mary is working to make a “match made in heaven” for you with her Son.
I also am discerning a religious vocation
That’s awesome! If I can be of any help let me know!
