You weren’t born an atheist

The Ten Commandments of the Mosaic Law on a mo...

“I’m an atheist…I don’t believe there is a God”.

NO. You just don’t have the NERVE to believe in God. We are all created in His image and likeness. There is not a single one of us who was born to “not believe in Him”. We are all created to worship, and to believe.

Yet we all have free will. We all have the ability to chose to follow Him, or deny Him.

Do you know wrong from right?

You do?

Then you have a moral conscience. That moral conscience didn’t just “happen” to come upon you. It’s conditioned in you. Even those who do not believe in God and His commandments and laws, follow the same basic moral laws in their own lives.

I don’t see many atheists walking the streets stating “I don’t believe in God and His punishments…therefore it’s okay for me to murder someone when they piss me off”…or “God doesn’t exist, so I can cheat on my spouse all I want, it’s not going to harm me at all!”

We were all born with free will. A freedom to chose what decisions to make, what to believe, and what to do with our lives. We can chose to follow God, or chose to turn away from Him. We can chose to follow His ways, or we can chose to sin.

“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator” – Rom 1:24-25

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie. What a bold statement. God is truth. God is love. If you are in a constant state of distruth, you are not with God. If you are finding yourself searching for love in all the wrong places, you are not with God. God is the only one who can fulfill such desires of your heart. God, and God alone.

Conclusion: You were not born an atheist…nor were you born homosexual.

But that’s a whole ‘nother post. ;-)

  1. “NO. You just don’t have the NERVE to believe in God. ”

First of all, you’re wrong. Second of all, are you claiming the ability to read minds?

“Do you know wrong from right?

    You do?”

I certainly do. Though I imagine you and I disagree on a number of the finer points.

“I don’t see many atheists walking the streets stating “I don’t believe in God and His punishments…therefore it’s okay for me to murder someone when they piss me off””

Because there are other consequences to murdering someone than just because a deity supposedly said it’s bad.

“or “God doesn’t exist, so I can cheat on my spouse all I want, it’s not going to harm me at all!””

First of all, many people, both religious and non, cheat on their spouses all the time. That being said, there are plenty of ways that cheating on one’s spouse causes harm. The least being feeling horribly due to empathy, because presumably someone who is your spouse is someone you care for at least in part, and presumably cheating on them will hurt their feelings at the least.

“Conclusion: You were not born an atheist…nor were you born homosexual.”

In the strictest of terms, I was technically an atheist when I was born. Because when I was born, as far as we can tell, I didn’t even know what ‘me’ was, so I wouldn’t be able to believe a god existed.

And you’re right, I wasn’t born homosexual. My homosexual friends were, though. :)

  2. We were all born sinners who hate God. The Bible is clear that we cannot chose God. God chose us. As it says, he chose us before the foundation of the world!

  4. I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with this at the same time. Weird.

In CCC paragraph 2357, it says, “Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained.”

That’s pretty unclear, but I always took it to mean that it may not necessarily be a choice. *shrug*

Other parts of this post, though, I find myself in agreement with you. Like I said. I agree and disagree. :-P
